Question:
I have psuedoexfoliation (when flaky dandruff-like deposits peel off the lens inside the eye and potentially block fluid from leaving the eye) and need to have cataract surgery. Is it possible to have a successful surgery with this condition? The ophthalmologist wasn't very encouraging about my problem. I wasn't aware of it until I had an appointment to schedule cataract surgery.
Answer:
Most patients with pseudoexfoliation have no problems with the surgery and if you do, there are corrective actions that can be taken during the surgery to produce a good outcome. If you surgeon does not feel comfortable with such surgery, you are entitled to get a second opinion.
