• What should I do when my child is experiencing multiple vision issues?

    Question:

My son is 7 years old and he has problem visualizing things. He cannot see things clearly from a long distance could not even recognize me sometimes from a distance. He watches TV very closely. He cannot differentiate among colors. Eye alignment is off as well. I took him to an ophthalmologist and after atropine administration he checked the vision of both eyes. He said vision is OK but the system which send messages to brain and also receive messages from brain is a bit weak. What should I do?

    Answer:

It sounds as if further evaluation of the retina, optic nerves, and brain are needed by an ophthalmologist who is used to dealing with such problems in very young children. Color blindness does occur in about 10 percent of men so that may or may not be related.
