What can be done to stop flashes after retinal detachment?
MAR 10, 2014
My 89-year-old mother detached her retina this past summer. Reattachment surgery was not successful. She is having a very difficult time with her overall vision due to the frequency of distracting flashes she's been experiencing in that eye. She also has some mild macular degeneration in that eye. What can be done to help her cope with the flashes?
Unfortunately there is no cure for flashes presently. If the retina is still detached, then consideration can be given to surgical repair again with silicone oil. Sometimes when the retina is reattached then the flashes can stop.
