Do I have to wear glasses for astigmatism?
FEB 23, 2016
I have been diagnosed with mixed astigmatism (irregularly shaped cornea) in both eyes. In one eye the astigmatism is mild, in the other one it is severe. I am 34 years old. I was prescribed eyeglasses for permanent wear. I think I can live without eyeglasses pretty well, at least for now. If I ignore eyeglasses and don't wear them, will this cause lazy eye later in life? Can lazy eye develop if, as a child, I had no astigmatism or any other eye problems and my eye problems started in early 30s?
If you are comfortable performing all of your activities without using eyeglasses then you do not need to use them. At 34 years old you will not develop a lazy eye. Certain activities such as driving do require a minimum vision so you want to be sure that if you drive without glasses that you do meet the minimum vision requirement in your state.
