  • Do scratched eyeglasses have to be replaced?

    Question:

I read on a website that scratched eyeglasses, even those with small scratches, should be exchanged because the resulting light scatter can impair sight and cause eye irritation/fatigue, headache and concentration problems. Is this true?

    Answer:

Looking through a scratched lens may be annoying and could distract your eye’s gaze, but it won’t harm the eye’s optical system. It is possible that the scratch(es) could be distracting enough to cause eye strain and headaches. Some may wish to replace their scratched lenses/glasses, but there’s no long-term harm in continuing to use them.
