  • Does astigmatism change with age?


    Question:

    Does astigmatism change with age? Mine changed recently in my right eye. From a Cylinder of -0.50 to -0.75. The Axis changed from 135 to 145. (Spherical changed from -5.25 to -5.0) My left eye didn't change at all. I've been told that astigmatism shouldn't change with age and this possibly indicates eye disease of some sort. Is this true?


    Answer:

    The changes you describe are not uncommon and very minimal. Based on those changes I would not suspect any eye disease unless there were other abnormalities on your eye exam.
