• Does having herpes of the eye affect lens choice for cataract surgery?

    Question:

I need surgery after developing cataract from steroid use while treating shingles. I will be taking steroid drops and oral acyclovir for the rest of my life. Does this affect my lens choice? Can I have a multifocal lens?

    Answer:

Fortunately, this issue should not affect your lens choice. If you are deemed to be a good candidate by your ophthalmologist, either a multifocal or an extended depth-of-focus lens could be good choices.
