  • Does progressives maladjustment mean the same for multifocal IOLs?

    Question:
If I could not adjust to progressives, would the same hold true for multifocal IOLs?

    Answer:

There is no overlap between the optics of progressive eyeglasses, which are glasses that correct vision at more than one distance, and an IOL (or intraocular) lens that provides clear vision at more than one distance.

From a purely medical point of view, I do not think that an inability to tolerate progressive eyeglasses means that you will not like a multifocal IOL. However, the inability to tolerate progressives is not that common and it may mean that you are particularly sensitive to minor visual aberrations. This could conceivably translate to being unhappy with a multifocal IOL.
