Does YAG Cure Posterior Capsule Opacification?
JAN 23, 2015
Question:
If you have laser surgery for cloudy vision after cataract surgery (posterior capsulotomy), is this considered cured or can this recur a second time?
Answer:
Generally laser surgery to restore clear vision after cataract surgery is only necessary once. In rare circumstances, though, certain cells may develop in the area of the posterior capsule, causing vision loss and requiring additional laser treatment. Also, in some instances, the opening in the capsule from earlier laser treatment can start to shrink and reduce vision, and that may require another laser treatment to restore clear vision. These events are not common, and in my practice at least 99% of the time one posterior capsulotomy is all that is ever required.
