Question:
What's the treatment for filamentary keratitis?
Answer:
Filamentary keratitis is a painful condition in which small "tags" of epithelium hang off the corneal surface. Causes vary but common causes are dry eye, patching, or ptosis (drooping of the upper lid), corneal transplantation, certain infections or other less common conditions. Treatment depends on cause, but filamentary keratitis can be difficult to treat. These tags may need to be physically removed or treated with lubrication or other agents. Your ophthalmologist will be able to correctly diagnose and treat this condition. It is not likely to go away on its own.
