  • Possible Treatments for Foveal Hypoplasia

    Question:

My 4-month-old baby was diagnosed with foveal hypoplasia and we have been told that there is no treatment. Her stem cells are preserved. Is there any treatment expected in the near future to overcome this or to improve vision?

    Answer:

At this point, there is no treatment expected in the near future to address the challenges of foveal hypoplasia (when the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye is abnormally underdeveloped). However, I think that there is great potential for stem cell therapy or other forms of vision regenerative treatments. I am optimistic for the future, but do not have a good sense for the timeline.
