  • Will the night glare that came after my cataract surgery go away?

    Question:

I had cataract surgery done on both eyes. It didn't fix the glare at night which was my major complaint. I had YAG done and now I see a diagonal glare from lower left of my vision to upper right. During the day I don't notice it as much, but at night it gets worse. Will this get better or will I have to live with this? Surgery was done a week ago.

    Answer:

It is very difficult to answer such a specific and unusual problem. Certainly you would want to wait more than a week to evaluate your condition. It’s unclear from your note when the cataract surgery was performed in each eye; when the YAG was performed on one or both eyes; if the glare got better after the YAG; and whether the diagonal glare was present only after the YAG—these are questions among others that I would need to know. I would suspect that the problems you are experiencing are either implant lens-related or eye health-related. I think you need to talk with your ophthalmologist to get more specific attention to your concerns.
