Question:
I had my eye exam ten months ago and they recommended bifocals at that time. I said no because I remove my glasses to read and see perfect to read. I am 51 years old. I have issues with distance and now I can still read without glasses but find I see better for reading and distance if I push my glasses to the very tip of my nose. Can you explain why this is and if it means I need to change my prescription?
Answer:
When you push your glasses away, you change the power of the lens' effect on your eyes. This does mean you probably need a change in glasses prescription—probably from early nuclear sclerosis of the lens (a normal pre-cataract change). Progressive lenses would only be useful if you would rather not take your glasses off whenever you read.
