How long before pre-eye injection anesthetic wears off?

Question:
How long does it take for the pre-eye injection anesthetic to wear off so I can see to drive again?
Answer:
The pre-eye injection anesthetic (painkiller) should not affect your vision. It numbs the outside of your eye to prevent discomfort from the injection. Some doctors will use an anesthetic ointment, and this can cause some blurring but should clear up with irrigation of the eye (cleansing of the eye with sterile fluid) that is done after the injection.
Finally, some patients will have temporary blurring of vision from the injection itself. However, this typically clears up within 5 to 10 minutes.
