  • How long does it usually take to cure blepharoconjunctivitis?

    Question:

I have blepharoconjunctivitis and I have been using Tobramycin every three hours. How long does it usually take to cure this kind of eye infection?

    Answer:

There are different types of blepharoconjunctivitis (swelling of eyelids and the membrane covering the white of the eye). Sometimes it is a severe infection which resolves over days to weeks with topical antibiotic and/or anti-inflammatory drops. Other times it is an ongoing condition of the eyelid glands. This can result in symptoms such as burning, itching, redness, foreign body sensation, blurring and pain. This condition may require other treatments than just Tobramycin, such as different types of drops, warm compresses, eyelid hygiene (cleaning) and occasionally even oral medications (taken by mouth). So if your condition fails to resolve within weeks then perhaps additional treatments are needed.
