• How long will I feel stents after eyelid surgery?

    Question:

I had eye surgery two days ago (bottom lid floppy eye syndrome) and stents were put into my tear ducts of both eyes. I can feel them each time I blink and it’s painful. Should I be able to feel them? How long does the sensation of my eyeballs being scratched actually last?

    Answer:

Depending on the particular anatomy of your eyes and the tightness of your eyelids after surgery, you might feel the silicone tubes. This may loosen over a week or so. You might try placing a small amount of eye ointment in the inner corner to soothe your eyes. If there is no change, please contact your surgeon who can either loosen or remove the tubes.
