Question:
I have kidney disease. Is it safe to take Ketorolac eye drops after cataract surgery?
Answer:
The amount of the active medication absorbed into the blood stream from a single eye drop or two, even when taken three to four times a day, is so small as to be near zero risk when given to a normal adult. There are eyedrop medications that can be dangerous to small children, or adults if taken in doses larger than directed by the prescribing physician, but Ketorolac eye drops, when taken as directed, are not a danger to your kidney function.
The body’s absorption of oral (pill, by mouth) Ketorolac is a different story and can be a great risk to your kidney function. I suggest you consult with your ophthalmologist.
