How Often Should I See Doc After Accident?
JUN 05, 2015
Question:
I was in an auto accident and diagnosed with traumatic iritis, which took almost six months to fully heal. Now my eye doctor said he needs to see me every year to monitor the compromised eye. Is it necessary to see him so often?
Answer:
Since you had an injury serious enough to cause prolonged iritis, long-term follow-up is reasonable. Some long-term effects may not show up for years, especially glaucoma and retinal detachments. Why not play it safe? Your treating ophthalmologist is in the best position to make these determinations about future exams, but if you are in doubt, you can get another ophthalmologist's opinion as well.
