My 1-Year-Old Isn't Crying Tears. Is That Normal?
APR 12, 2015
Question:
My grandson is now 1 year old and has never cried tears. Is this normal?
Answer:
The absence of tear production is uncommon. I would have the corneas assessed by an ophthalmologist to make sure they are sufficiently moist. In my experience most of these children will eventually have normal emotional tearing, and only a few have an abnormality of their lacrimal gland (which produces tears).
