  • Is it OK to exercise with optic neuritis?

    Question:

Is it OK to exercise if I have optic neuritis?

    Answer:

As a general rule, it is OK to exercise with optic neuritis (when the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain, swells in the back of the eye). If the optic neuritis is associated with multiple sclerosis (an autoimmune disease that damages nerves in the body) it is reasonable to avoid heavy exercise during the active phase of the optic neuritis. Be sure to confirm with your doctor and/or ophthalmologist if they have any specific recommendations for you.
