Is it OK to have the technician (not the ophthalmologist) perform my refractive exam for glasses?

Question:
I was at an ophthalmologist for an eye exam. An optometric or ophthalmology technician did my vision exam. I am now worried about filling the prescription. What if it’s inaccurate? Is this OK to not have the ophthalmologist do the vision exam?
Answer:
Busy offices frequently have skilled technicians who measure the eye power (refraction). The values they generate are usually accurate. If this makes you uncomfortable, most offices will put you before the ophthalmologist for a final check if you ask for it.
