  • Is it safe to use flaxseed eye mask after cataract surgery?

    Question:
Is it safe to use flaxseed eye mask for dry eye after cataract surgery?

    Answer:
I do not recommend this treatment. If you have dry eye the treatments may include various types of drops and punctual plugs. If you have eyelid inflammation such as blepharitis, eyelid scrubs and warm compresses may also help. Warm compresses can be applied in a number of ways. Microwaveable flaxseed eye mask is not going to be any better than applying a warm facecloth to the eye.  That being said, check with your eye surgeon before doing anything not specifically described in your post-op instructions during the early months after cataract surgery.
