• Is a pregnancy test required or recommended before LASIK?

    Question:

Is a pregnancy test required or recommended before LASIK?

    Answer:

It is not required but may be good common sense for the patient to be aware of their pregnancy status since they will be using eye drops and perhaps some valium—probably not a big risk but still, a risk. Also, LASIK is not advisable for pregnant women because a patient’s refraction (power of their prescription) can change temporarily during pregnancy.
