Is there an alternative to dilation during my eye exam?

Answer:
If there is suspected disease inside your eye involving the vitreous or retina, then dilation is required to diagnose and treat you. If you have no symptoms of disease in the back of the eye and are just having a comprehensive exam, certain imaging techniques can get a fairly good image of the retina without dilation.Your ophthalmologist can explain if there is an acceptable substitute for dilation.
