• Is there treatment for chorioretinal scars from ROP?

    Question:

Is there any therapeutic approach to stop or delay the deterioration of vision in adult patients with bilateral chorioretinal scars in the posterior pole due to retinopathy of prematurity?

    Answer:

In general, patients with central scarring related to retinopathy of prematurity (when abnormal blood vessels grow on the retina of some prematurely born babies) should not have progressive vision loss. If you or a family member are experiencing this, then it would be critical to receive a comprehensive eye exam to determine the cause of this vision loss. There are some associated conditions or diagnoses for which treatments may be available.
