  • Would Marijuana Use Affect LASIK Pre-operative Assessment?

    Question:

About two hours before my pre-op exam for blade-free LASIK I had smoked some marijuana because I was very anxious. I am now three to four days away from my surgery and have become nervous that having smoked before the exam may have affected the results. Please let me know if this is the case or if I have nothing to worry about.

    Answer:

The THC in marijuana can have an effect on eye pressure but this should not affect the readings that were made to correct your vision as they will be compared to what you are currently wearing. If they are significantly different, most surgeons will have you back for repeat readings. If you are still concerned, be sure to ask for a retest prior to your surgery.
