What is the best treatment for pediatric chalazia?
NOV 04, 2012
Question:
My 4-year-old child has repeated outbreaks of meibomian cysts on his lower eye lids. A doctor friend tells me there is no treatment. It's been six months now since first cyst. Top lid on one eye is now swollen and he has been prescribed an antibiotic. Should we take him to an ophthalmic pediatrician?
Answer:
By the term meibomian cyst, I am assuming you are referring to a hordeolum or a chalazion. If this is the case, warm compresses and topical antibiotics are often prescribed. Careful and routine cleaning of the eyelid margins can reduce recurrence of the problem.
