• Why am I very light sensitive in the morning?

    Question:

I am very sensitive to light every morning and cannot open my eyes. The condition abates later in the morning and I see normally. What might be the cause?

    Answer:

Answering your question without being able to examine your eyes entails a lot of guesswork. Guesswork is not a wise way to practice medicine and properly take care of people. Your symptoms are "suggestive" of dry eye syndrome. People do not make many tears while sleeping. This dryness of the eye can cause the injury or death of tiny cells on the surface of the cornea. This would likely lead to redness and light sensitivity in the morning. As the day progresses, the eye is bathed in more tears and the tiny cells replenish themselves. I really suggest that you need to speak to your ophthalmologist for a proper eye examination that does not involve guesswork.
