What is the cause of sudden loss of vision?
MAR 10, 2014
My husband has vision loss in his left eye between positions of 12 and 2 but not in the center of his eyesight. Could this still be macular degeneration? This occurred suddenly, not slowly.
Acute loss of vision is a medical emergency. Your husband should see an ophthalmologist as soon as possible. Sudden loss of vision may represent a retinal detachment, a stroke, or other very concerning medical disorders. Although macular degeneration typically involves the central vision, it may cause loss of vision just outside the central vision. The only way to know what is causing the loss of vision is a thorough eye and retinal exam by an ophthalmologist promptly.
