  • Is there surgery for bleeding under the macula?

    Question:

Is there surgery for hemorrhaging (bleeding) under the macula resulting in scar tissue?

    Answer:

While there is surgery and other options to treat an acute sub-macular hemorrhage, once scarring develops the options are limited. Research into sub-macular scar tissue removal has not shown it provides any benefit, and so it is not typically performed. But each case is unique and a question like this is best suited for your retina specialist. They can perform a comprehensive examination and discuss options tailored to your specific needs.
