Question:
I’m 46 years old and have a blind left eye from childhood. Now that eye has a cataract (cloudy natural lens). Is it required to go for cataract surgery or can I leave it as it is without risk for the rest of my life?
Answer:
It is impossible to answer this question completely without knowing more about why the eye is blind.
Still, it is rarely required to remove a cataract in a blind eye that is otherwise doing well. One potential reason to remove the cataract could be inflammation and increased intraocular pressure associated with a "hypermature" cataract.
