What kind of sedation do they use for Macular Degeneration Treatment Injections?
AUG 18, 2014
I have a strong reflexive reaction to anything coming close to my eyes. My treatment plan includes Lucentis injections for my age-related macular degeneration (a breakdown of tissues in the back of the eye). Do any ophthalmologists use moderate sedation for the injections? Oral medications have not been effective.
I am not aware of any ophthalmologists who use moderate sedation (using a drug to calm a patient) for eye injections. Moderate sedation is not without risk and requires special equipment and procedures that are usually not available in ophthalmology offices.
