  • Does Spring Surgery Help Eyelid Problems?

    MAR 20, 2014

    Question:

What do you think of spring surgery for eyelid dysfunction? I have had a weight in my lid for years but it doesn't work.

    Answer:

Both gold weights and spring surgery offer limited improvement of eyelid function in patients with seventh nerve (facial nerve) paralysis. Springs can improve function but in some cases they can erode through the skin, become exposed and require surgical removal or revision. We recommend that you be evaluated by an oculoplastic surgeon with experience in the placement of both types of implants. She or he will be able to determine which procedure is best for you.
