Tearing, Infection After Tear Duct Surgery
MAR 16, 2015
Question:
My mother had endoscopic DCR (tear duct surgery) two months ago. Now, while the silicone tube is still in her tear duct, she has tearing and annoying discharge or pus. Is this an indication that the procedure hasn’t been successful?
Answer:
No, the tube may need to be removed as it may be blocking the new opening created to drain the tears. The tube may also contribute to inflammation and infection. Once the tube is removed, the infection may clear.
