Question:
I regularly get conjunctivitis. For example I had it a few weeks ago and now I have it again. Can this point to a more serious underlying problem?
Answer:
Recurrent frequent episodes of conjunctivitis are not very common, except for perhaps an allergy to something in the household or a pet. I would recommend having an eye exam to look for evidence of an allergic reaction in the conjunctiva (the thin, transparent tissue that covers the outer surface of the eye) and to screen for hidden or mild infections in the eyelids and eye lashes which can give rise to mild but recurrent conjunctivitis.
