  • What should I do if my punctal plug disappeared under my eyelid?

    Question:

My six-week dissolvable punctal plug (a tiny device placed in the eye to treat dry eye) popped out and disappeared under my eyelid yesterday. I'd only had it in for a few days. Will it dissolve on its own or do I need to go back to the doctor?

    Answer:

The dissolvable plug will either dissolve on its own or be washed away by your tears. You may have already wiped it out of your eye with a tissue. No worries. It will not hurt you.
