Which type of lower eyelid surgery is safer?

Question:
I am considering lower eyelid blepharoplasty surgery. After some research, I understand there are pros and cons to both surgical methods (incision from outside the eyelid versus incision from inside the eyelid). I am concerned that the “outside the eyelid” method requires an incision into the orbicularis oculi muscle (the muscle that closes the eyelids). Does this method compromise this muscle and increase the risk of complications as I age?
Answer:
Both surgeries for lower blepharoplasty can be performed safely, maintaining eyelid function as you age. A board-certified ophthalmologist will select the best procedure to address your particular anatomy and concerns.
