Why do I see halos with my multifocal lens?
NOV 11, 2020
Question:
I just had a Panoptics lens put in a week and a half ago and I notice that I have a small crescent moon to the right. Letters have a slight glow or fuzz to them, and I have pretty severe halo effect at night and the street signs have a glow around them. Should I give it some time to change and how long? Or should I start planning on removing it and have a plain lens put in?
Answer:
With the Panoptix lens or any multifocal lens, it is normal to have some glow as well as halos for the first six weeks or so. They generally tend to get better but do not completely go away. The small crescent moon may be what we call a negative dysphotopsia. This can happen with many IOLs and also should get better with time. Of course, if the visual symptoms do not improve over time, you will need to discuss alternatives including removal and replacement of the lens although this is rarely necessary.
