  • Will cataract surgery affect development of dry AMD in that eye?

    Question:

Will cataract surgery to my right eye, which is in the beginning stage of dry AMD, have any effect on the further development of my dry AMD in that eye?

    Answer:

This is an important question that has been asked by many. There’s no evidence that the surgery should affect your AMD, but it’s important for your retinal specialist to be sure that you have no signs of occult neovascularization (abnormal blood vessels that grown inside the eye when one has wet AMD) prior to surgery.
