  • Will Dark Glasses Help with Astigmatism and Light Sensitivity?


    Question:

    My daughter has astigmatism (imperfectly shaped cornea) and ocular albinism (lack of color in the eye). It causes extreme light sensitivity and blurry vision. In a lighted room, would dark glasses help her vision?


    Answer:

    Albinism is often associated with light sensitivity and in many cases astigmatism. I would try glasses to improve the vision as much as possible and darkening the lenses to attempt to reduce the light sensitivity. Often there is a need to try different filtration densities (how dark the tint is) to find the optimum amount.
