  • Will I become blind from delayed cataract surgery?

    Question:

I am 62-year-old with diabetes and was diagnosed with cataract on one eye which worsened with time. My doctor scheduled surgery for this month, but it’s postponed indefinitely. My vision in the affected eye is totally blurred. Will I eventually become blind without surgery?

    Answer:

Without treatment, the vision will become worse in the affected eye. But the cataract can still be removed in the near future when elective surgery becomes more widely available. Despite its delay, cataract surgery will correct the vision impaired by the cataract. Hang in there, help for your vision is coming.
