Will patching my eye with AMD harm my eyes?
NOV 16, 2018
Question:
I have wet AMD in one eye and the other eye has no issues. I find covering the AMD eye removes the visual distraction sensation I experience normally. Will this have any impact on my good eye and/or the AMD eye?
Answer:
Normally we recommend avoiding prolonged covering of one eye since it can lead to strabismus or crossed eyes.
For short periods of time and during specific tasks you could consider covering one eye, but again, we generally recommend against prolonged patching or covering of one eye. However, covering the eye does not damage one eye or the other eye or affect the macular degeneration. Talk with your ophthalmologist about your visual distractions and their recommendations for reducing them.
