  • Will the steroids affect my healing of one or both eyes from Cataract Sugery?

    Question:

I had cataract surgery last Thursday and am scheduled for my second eye next Thursday. Today I received an injection of prednisone for a cough and was put on antibiotics and seven day steroid packet. Will the steroids affect my healing of one or both eyes?

    Answer:

The steroid predisone can slow down wound healing, but not to a significant degree. However, a more important issue is that "cough." If you have a genuine bacterial infection, your ophthalmologist needs to know more about it, and surgery might be delayed.
