  • Will a tractional retinal detachment happen in my second eye as well?

    Question:

I have a tractional retinal detachment in my left eye. Will I have the same condition in my right eye and how many years before it happens? The tractional retinal detachment happened 8 years ago.

    Answer:

Traction retinal detachments can be caused by a variety of underlying conditions. In some of these cases, the fellow eye may be at risk, but other causes do not put the fellow eye at risk. I encourage you to discuss this question with your retinal physician.
