  • Growing Chorus of Ophthalmologists Ask Congress for Long-Term COVID-19 Relief

Ophthalmologists from 36 states have now joined the Academy in calling on Congress for long-term assistance to help physicians recover from the coronavirus pandemic. Your colleagues have contacted more than 70 senators and 160 representatives to explain the financial relief they need to resume treating the nation’s patients.

Congress will immediately be focusing on an additional relief package when they return to Washington, D.C., in May. The next bill will address longer-term assistance. Your story will help them better understand the pandemic’s widespread effects — but legislators in 14 states still haven’t heard from ophthalmologists. If you live in one of the following states, you can play a critical role in advocating for the profession.

    • Alaska
    • Delaware
    • Hawaii
    • Idaho
    • Kentucky
    • Mississippi
    • Missouri
    • Montana
    • Nebraska
    • New Mexico
    • North Dakota
    • South Dakota
    • Vermont
    • Wyoming

The Academy’s online tool makes it easy for you to contact all your federal legislators. We’re leading a Virtual Hill Day on May 12 with your colleagues to advocate on issues such as COVID-19 relief, prior authorization and step therapy. Your support will reinforce our efforts.
