  • Ophthalmologists Derail Controversial Screening Proposal for Irlen Syndrome in Maine Schools

Ophthalmologists in Maine successfully lobbied state lawmakers on to stop legislation that would have created a pilot program to screen for scotopic sensitivity syndrome, also known as Irlen syndrome. The bill would have directed the Department of Education to design and implement a program for screening children in grades 3-6 in 10 elementary schools and to provide treatment with colored “Irlen” lenses as needed.
