Edwin M. Stone, MD, PhD, presents his 2017 Marshall M. Parks Lecture:Curing Heritable Blindness

“If we are going to sustainably deliver gene- and stem-cell-based treatments to the tens of thousands of people who need them, we will need to be able to do it for well less than $50,000 per patient. In our current health care environment, the vast majority of people in the United States will not be able to afford treatments at the $1 million price point that many commercial entities are proposing. This presentation will summarize the science and the strategy behind a nonprofit effort to develop affordable gene- and cell-based treatments for all forms of inherited retinal disease.”—Dr. Stone
