Why he became an ophthalmologist: When Dr. Gregory was young, his mother got a brain tumor, but the family couldn't afford to pay for treatment. After Emory University made arrangements to do the surgery for free, the doctor who treated Dr. Gregory's mother inspired her son to become a doctor himself.
