    Mid-Year Forum April 2017

    There has been a lot of activity in Washington, D.C., since last year’s Mid-Year Forum. The Academy invites you to get involved on behalf of ophthalmology April 26-29 at its Mid-Year Forum 2017.

    The events. The forum begins with a dinner briefing on April 26 to prepare you for the next day’s meetings with senators and representatives. On the 27th, you will discuss the most pressing issues impacting our field during the Congressional Advocacy Day visits to Capitol Hill. The Acade­my will provide maps, Metro cards, and educational materials to ensure that visits with members of Con­gress and their staff are a success.

    At 3:30 p.m. that afternoon, the Mid-Year Forum’s “Politics. Policy. Practice Manage­ment Hearings” program kicks off. The welcome reception is at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner featuring keynote speaker Michelle Bernard, a political analyst for MSNBC and found­er of the Bernard Center for Women, Politics & Public Policy.

    As part of the Mid-Year Forum, the Academy Council’s spring meeting takes place April 28-29, where the council and leaders of ophthalmic state, subspecialty, and specialized interest societies discuss advocacy news and provide updates on activities and strategic issues.

    The Mid-Year Forum will conclude in the afternoon of April 29 with entertainment by the Capitol Steps.

    Your impact. During Congressional Advocacy Day, when you explain to senators and representatives how their votes impact their constituents, you vividly reinforce the advocacy work that the Academy conducts throughout the year. We encourage members from all subspecialties to participate.
