A 51-year-old Caucasian male with sudden right painless visual loss. Past medical history was relevant for hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia. The patient denied headache, scalp tenderness, jaw claudication, fatigue, anorexia or recent weight loss. Visual acuity was 20/100 in his right eye and 20/20 in his left eye. Fundoscopy revealed superior optic disc edema with flamed shaped hemorrhages. Computerized static perimetry revealed an inferior altitudinal defect. Sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein were normal. Right fundus photography shows superior optic disc edema with flamed shaped hemorrhages (A), also visible in the fluorescein angiography (B). Computerized static perimetry illustrates the inferior altitudinal defect (C-D).
